Robbery attack on Nat’l Wheelchair Tennis team: Sports Ministry reacts after Onua Sports’ publication

Following the presentation on Onua Maakye about the robbery attack on the National Wheelchair Tennis team, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has issued a statement of sympathy to the team.

“The Ministry of Youth and Sports wishes to send a get-well message to the injured players and sends its sympathy to the team,” the statement said.

On Wednesday, February 15, 2023, the Maakye Sports team together with Captain Smart lambasted the ministry for allowing the team travel by land to be attacked by robbers.

Ranting on the issue, Captain Smart berated the preference treatment given officials at the ministry whilst the playing body itself is allowed to suffer.

He chastised how the Sports Minister for instance is given flight for his internal travels whilst a whole wheelchair team would be allowed to travel by land.

But the Ministry has condemned the incident and promised to ensure the safety of the players.

“The Ministry wishes to state that our commitment is to ensure their safety and condemn the attacks in no uncertain terms,” the statement indicated.
