Jonathan Mensah impresses in debut for San Jose Earthquakes

San Jose Earthquakes’ new signing Jonathan Mensah made his debut in a 2-1 defeat to Atlanta United at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday in front of over 67,000 fans.

Mensah put on an impressive display during the game, playing the full 90 minutes and achieving a 95% pass success rate.

The Ghanaian defender had 33 touches on the ball, made eight clearances, and completed three out of four long balls accurately.

The 32-year-old also made three ball recoveries and delivered two final third passes, demonstrating his composure and control in defense.

Mensah joined San Jose Earthquakes from Columbus Crew at the beginning of the 2023 MLS season. The 31-year-old has played in the MLS since 2017 and has made a name for himself as a dependable center-back.

Despite Mensah’s solid debut performance, San Jose Earthquakes fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Atlanta United.
