A/R: One dead, houses burnt as communities clash over reprisal attacks

A reprisal attack by some unidentified men at Kwamekyerekrom Thursday, February 23, 2023, led to burning down of houses and death of one person whilst other residents were chased away.

The farming community in the Ahafo Ano South West district of the Ashanti region was attacked in response to the suspected murder of a man believed to be in his 30s whose body was discovered on a nearby desert by his family.

Security officers have been deployed to maintain order in the deserted community amid the ensuing tensions.

Meanwhile, NADMO Coordinator of the Ahafo Ano South West district, Daniel Nyamekye, has confirmed the arrest of one person.

“The Regional Police Commander led a delegation to the community and that included members of the district security council.

“We have since converged the affected residents to a safe place and that is a newly constructed police post. Over 70 policemen have been deployed to the community to protect lives and property but for now, I can confirm the arrest of one person who is assisting police investigations,” Mr Nyamekye told Accra-based Asaase radio.

A district security council meeting has been called to find a lasting solution to the clash.
