A month’s salary here was more than my annual salary in Ghana – a US-based Ghanaian – SVTV Africa
US-based Ghanaian, Kwame Sarpong revealed that when he travelled to work in America in 2018, he made $1800 a month, indicating that it changed her life.
In an interview on Daily Hustle Worldwide on SVTV AFRICA, Kwame mentioned that he worked as a Veterinary officer for years and earned a meagre salary. However, he made $1800 in a month which was more than he made in a year as a health officer.
“A month in America that year changed everything for me. I realised I was doing bad business in Ghana when I saw the money I could make in the US. The money I made after a month was more than my annual salary in Ghana.”
“Back in 2006, when I began working as a veterinary officer, my salary was GHS150 after taxes. In 2018, I took GHS1200 home after taxes. There’s no way you can make properties with that,” he said.
According to him, Ghana’s system is pushing professionals to Europe and America to do labour work. He added that the labour work abroad is “better than an office job in Ghana. The benefits we enjoy here alone are many.”
Kwame Sarpong reiterated that it is easy to succeed abroad than in Ghana despite the bills they pay. He encouraged the youth abroad to work hard and avoid complaining because “it is tough everywhere.”
